Gold prices rose sharply, with spot gold increasing around 1.9% to $5,376 per ounce, reaching its highest level in over four weeks. US gold futures gained 2.7% to $5,389. The surge followed major US and Israeli strikes on Iran, including the reported killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and the continuation of missile exchanges across the region.

This escalation in tensions between the US and Iran has raised fears of a prolonged period of instability, which, in turn, has led to an increased demand for gold as a safe-haven asset.
